Fighting for Private Schools
Since our founding in 1967 as the Texas Association of Non-Public Schools, we have provided advocacy, representation, and resources for private schools throughout Texas. We help member schools pursue academic excellence, assist them in growing to meet Texas’ needs, and protect them from government interference.
Headquartered in Austin, and governed by a board of state and national education leaders, we are a state-wide organization representing more than 900 member schools and over 290,000 Texas students.
Our Mission
The Texas Private Schools Association advocates for the independence of Texas private schools, ensuring their freedom to fulfill their unique missions and meet the diverse needs of students.
Message from the Executive Director
Welcome to the website for the Texas Private Schools Association! It is our honor and privilege to represent the 920 private, accredited, non-profit schools in Texas.
These schools range in size and scope from tiny rural preschools to large independent k-12 schools. We have a vast array of educational models, including Montessori, Catholic, Episcopal, Jewish, Lutheran, Waldorf, Islamic, Baptist, and Special-Needs schools. What all of these schools have in common is a commitment to best practices in teaching and learning and freedom from government regulation in order to achieve the mission of each individual school.
Each of these schools is accredited by one of the 19 accrediting agencies that comprise TEPSAC – The Texas Private School Accrediting Commission. These accrediting agencies, and the standards to which they hold schools accountable, are recognized by the Texas Education Agency as equivalent or superior to the quality of public schools in Texas.
We hope that you find this website a great resource and discover why the parents of over 290,000 students choose private schools each year for their children. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at Laura@TexasPrivateSchools.org.
